Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs)

Alpha-hydroxy acids (sometimes known as fruit acids) are a group of naturally-occurring organic acids that are used therapeutically for skin conditions in topically-applied creams and lotions. The most commonly used AHAs are glycolic acid and lactic acid. Of these glycolic acid is believed to be superior because it is more readily absorbed by the skin compared to other AHAs.

Creams or lotions containing alpha-hydroxy acids are applied topically to the skin.
