Tinea is a highly infectious fungal disease, characterised by itching, red, scaly skin between the afflicted toes. Tinea will not heal without intervention. There are several forms of tinea, but the most common form is athlete's foot (tinea pedis, which affects the toes). Athlete's foot affects approximately 10% of the population at any given time and affects approximately 75% of the population at some stage of their lives. Men aged 25 - 54 have a higher incidence of athlete's food than the rest of the population.
